Fashionista Feature: Dianne Dequina

Dianne Dequina is today’s fashionista feature! She is a fashion blogger and loves wearing the most recent trends. “What I love the most about fashion is that you can dress yourself the way you want. For example, today, I'm chic, but tomorrow I'm a rock star!” Dianne told me. Let’s see what Dianne Dequina has to say about clothes, trends, and fashion!

Dianne Dequina

“You can express your feelings and your mood by how you dress. And actually, dressing up relieves my stress, for real!” Dianna Dequina is a student while also juggling two freelance jobs as a freelance web designer and a blogger. Find out what her fashion sense is all about and you just might get inspired by her  fashionista looks!

Personal Fashion Style

I don't have a personal fashion style, I guess. My choices in fashion depend on my mood. They depend on what I want on a day-to-day basis. But I do love Zara and Topshop – these are my favorite brands.

Dianne Dequina

Dianne Dequina has a fashion mantra: wear what you feel like wearing.

Clothes, Bags, or Shoes?

Shoes, of course! I especially love heels. Heels can do a lot. Even though you're just wearing shorts and a plain white top, you will always feel and look beautiful if you're pairing them off with fab heels.

As a fashionista, Dianne Dequina definitely knows her shoes; look at those red and ochre heels!

What You’re Grateful For

I love eating! I eat a whole lot, but I still stay thin, so I’m very much grateful for that.

Fashion Icons

In the local fashion scene, I look up to Anne Curtis and Laureen Uy. They dress according to their personalities. In the international fashion scene, I love how Vanessa Hudgens can pull off different outfits!

Best Fashion Look

I love this look of mine. My fashion choices here include a ponytail, a plain white top, a blazer, and just a few choice accessories. The outfit is very simple, but I feel so beautiful.

Dianne Dequina

Fashion choices should always speak for us. They should highlight who we are and make us look like the most beautiful version of ourselves.

Fashion Inspiration

Magazines are my everyday fashion inspiration! I see a lot of outfits, color combinations, trends, and ways to pull of difficult ensembles. They also feature many new accessories and clothes, so I love reading them.

At the end of the day, Dianne Dequina is a very open minded person. She shrugs off haters and is very grateful to all of her supporters. “Even if a critic’s opinion of me is quite bad, if it makes sense, then I listen and it’s okay.”

Maggie Rizer for Lamsweerde, Matadin

Maggie Rizer poses for Inez van Lamsweerde and photography partner/ husband Vinoodh Matadin and, not surprisingly, the camera loves her. In this picture taken for Vogue Paris last 2002, Maggie poses naked while sitting on am old chair.

Maggie Rizer

Couple Lamsweerde and Matadin have taken way too many beautiful photographs to have gone unnoticed all this time. This explains why Taschen has compiled their photographs and turned this into a book called Pretty Much Everything.

Actually, Lamsweerde and Matadin have been taking photographs of Maggie Rizer ever since she started modeling. She used to be young and innocent, which they captured in her earlier pictures. Both photographers claimed that Maggie Rizer’s strength was her striking innocence.

Through the years, Rizer stayed fresh and still had an aura of gentleness around her, even as her career started to catapult to success. But recently, she has gotten pregnant and she is about to become a mother.

Even with motherhood just around the corner, Maggie Rizer still looked quite innocent and beautifully naïve in photographs, something both Lamsweerde and Matadin adored. They also loved how Maggie Rizer has always been in their pictures, since she was much younger until she grows close to becoming a mother.

Maggie Rizer has grown in front of Matadin and Lamweerde’s cameras, growing with a grace that turns a young lady into a mother. Her life has been captured in their pictures, something the couple was quite happy about.

In the picture above, even when Maggie Rizer was totally naked, she still looked very innocent. It would be close to impossible to get a picture of a naked woman who still looks impishly childish. The naked photograph almost looks untainted and innocent, reminiscent of who Maggie Rizer used to be in real life when she was much younger.

Lamsweerde and Matadin have had quite a career and a life together as a couple and as a team, photographing wonderful moments in fashion and art. Read more about the couple and the many iconic photographs they have taken in Pretty Much Everything, the book compiled for them by Taschen. In that book, you will also see Maggie Rizer as she poses for Matadin and Lamsweerde.

Juicy Couture: Butts into Billboards

Juicy Couture turns butts into billboards, with different celebrities offering their butts as space for Juicy Couture advertising. Gela Nash Taylor and Pamela Skaist Levy, the brains behind Juicy Couture, thought that making women’s asses a platform for advertising was a good call.

Juicy Couture butt

However, the two founders have left Juicy Couture. They have started Skaist-Taylor, another fashion baby of theirs that deserves its spot in the limelight. It borrows trends from California fashion, with a hint of weirdness.

Skaist-Taylor

Expect a lot of fur, animal skin, leather, and other details that speak of individuality. Of course, not all the details are being revealed just yet. Skaist-Taylor will soon reveal what the brand is all about, but now is not the time.

Their very first presentation is highly anticipated. The fashion world holds its breath, wondering if Juicy Couture will look anything like Skaist-Taylor. Or will Skaist-Taylor be so much better?

The space for the presentation is being designed by renowned architects Antonio Monfreda and Patrick Kinmonth. They were actually the architects behind the 45th anniversary celebratory exhibit by the giant fashion brand Valentino. In other words, Skaist-Taylor has something huge under wraps, and its unfolding is probably to die for.

Juicy Couture has been seen by many as almost tacky and very reminiscent of New Jersey’s worst fashion, but many people still wear this brand. The clothes from Juicy Couture, in my rather amateur opinion, are too loud and reminiscent of bubblegum pop movies. I don’t own a single piece of Juicy Couture clothing… And I also hate their bags.

But Skaist-Taylor is supposed to be different. I don’t know if this new brand is going to be anything like Juicy Couture, but I do hope not! I like the fact that Skaist-Taylor has a lot of leather; that is more my style.

Skaist-Taylor Fall 2012

But I’m holding off judgment until I see the first collection of Skaist-Taylor. I don’t want to be discouraged by the fact that the brains behind it are also the founders of Juicy Couture. Let’s wait and see. One thing is for sure: Skaist Taylor, unlike Juicy Couture, will not turn butts into billboards.

Lady Gaga Ousted… by Whom?

Lady Gaga has been pushed aside by a more ordinary citizen of the music world, Azealia Banks! Okay, maybe Lady Gaga will always have her spot in the limelight, but it looks like the fashion industry has found a new favorite and Lady Gaga has to take a backseat for now.

Lady Gaga wears the most iconic and most ridiculous dresses, both in her music videos and in events. She pulls it off wonderfully, but her dresses are almost impossible to wear by ordinary citizens like me! Maybe the weird and unorthodox have to give way to the regular and conventional, because the rather ordinary-looking Azealia Banks is now the new favorite.

Azealia Banks

I have to admit, I don’t appreciate her blue locks. They look a bit tacky on her, and I think that despite the gorgeous clothes, she has to take care of her hair and makeup. But that’s just me and I’m no expert!

Azealia Banks has also been photographed by photography power couple Matadin and Lamsweerde. She has released a YouTube video that has actually gone viral. Even the iconic fashion designer Karl Lagerfeld has wanted her to wear his designs, something that speaks volumes in the world of fashion.

Soon, Azealia Banks shall go on an album tour in the United Kingdom. Unfortunately, her tour will coincide with the New York fashion shows, so she probably won’t be showing up there.

Would you vote for Azealia Banks over Lady Gaga? Do you think she can outdo her? Do you think she deserves to be the newest muse of the fashion and music industry alike? Or is Lady Gaga still the goddess, or is Azealia Banks the newly crowned queen?

Even if Lady Gaga gets ousted by Aaealia Banks, she will still be one of my favorite artists. It will take time before I warmed up to the likes of Banks, but is it not always like that anyway? We all have our own pets, and then there are those whom we just can’t seem to appreciate. In any case, Lady Gage can get ousted by anyone, but she will still be the ultimate muse in my book.

Taschen published Lamsweerde, Matadin

Taschen finally publishes works of Inez van Lamsweerde plus her husband Vinoodh Matadin. I’m telling you, this couple takes great pictures, and their photos can be quite controversial! If you and your boyfriend were both photographers, would you be working on the same project? If you did, would you come up with such gorgeous pictures like the one below?

Me Kissing Vinoodh, Lovingly

Lamsweerde said that the above picture was a portrait of fear and love. Fear, because one would be quite afraid to lose someone you love so much. Aw, that’s just sweet. But the nudity and the passionate kiss has definitely made this photograph very controversial!

Querelle

Above, you see a picture of Querelle taken for W Magazine last 2004. Here, Querelle posed for Lamsweerde and Matadin, pretending to be a doll. And take note of the pins which you find scattered all over the floor – it’s supposed to be from Querelle’s updo, which looked messy. The portrait describes how it is to look beautiful and how it is to look like a mess. There is something so intriguing about the contrast of both entities.

Alexander McQueen

Lastly, I would like to include Alexander McQueen as one of the photos featured in this post. Here, the couple took a picture of McQueen wearing a bandana that made him look like he had the face of a skeleton, like he was skinned to show his insides. Actually, McQueen was very obsessed with dying and the macabre, which was why this was one of his favorite pictures, according to Matadin and  Lamsweerde. This photo was taken last 2004.

Taschen has already published their work, called Pretty Much Everything, and it’s worth about $700. Whew! A price I’m going to have to save for, but the pictures are just beautiful, aren’t they? Couple Matadin and Lamsweerde are definitely talented. And I’m just so jealous that they are also head over heels for each other. The book Pretty Much Everything by Matadin and Lamsweerde contains pictures of different supermodels, celebrities, and other iconic images.

Alexis Mabille Spring 2012

Alexis Mabille is a brilliant designer who probably hates black and white. I say that with affection, of course, because the way she plays with color justifies her veering away from anything too bland. And the Spring 2012 Alexis Mabille collection is a proud display of vibrant colors.

All dresses have personality. All outfits are of one color from head to toe. If you are a puritan, you would love to invest in a few of the clothes from the Alexis Mabille S/S 2012 collection. During the fashion show, models’ faces were painted with the colors corresponding with the dresses they wore. They also had giant fake flowers which they wore as hats. Couture sure does bring out a lot of almost-weird but artsy stuff!

But, just as is the case with many designers, you will either love it or hate it. It’s your chance to decide – look at the clothes from the Spring 2012 collection of Alexis Mabille and let me know if you’re loving it or hating it.

Alexis Mabille 2012 (1)Alexis Mabille 2012 (2)

Yellow as a color is hard enough to pull off when you are wearing it from head to toe, and it becomes nearly impossible to wear it in real life if it’s the only color of an actual three-piece suit! I would take these pieces apart and wear them separately. Each item would be a nice accent for a regular day to day outfit.

Alexis Mabille 2012 (3)

The powder blue dress above looks a little too prom-night for me. But I bet a Hollywood actress might wear this for a red carpet event. I love the frayed hem though, plus the empire cut would be flattering for most women.

Alexis Mabille 2012 (4)Alexis Mabille 2012 (5)

The orange ensemble caught my eye because of the skirt. I loved it! I want to be able to wear a sleek skirt that goes all the way to the floor, but I would wear it with a tube top with a sweetheart neckline.

Alexis Mabille 2012 (6)Alexis Mabille 2012 (7)Alexis Mabille 2012 (8)

This last dress is one of my favorites. I love the ribbon sleeves and the very classic silhouette. Of course, I’m a fan of prints, which makes this one of my top picks, given how Alexis Mabille used mostly solid colors for the entire spring collection.

Before I forget, what do you think of the Alexis Mabille S/S 2012 line? See any clothes you like? Or have you had better? Oh well, it’s just as well. These probably cost a fortune, anyway.

Banana Republic RTW 2012

Banana Republic has always made me drool. I drop by their shop, go through the clothes, pretend I can afford the entire store – and leave with my jaw still dropping and my eyes still out of their sockets. And Banana Republic boasts of a wonderful Spring 2012 RTW collection. Oh, no, more clothes I can’t afford but want to buy!

Okay, now that I’ve dried my tears, I can tell you a little more about Banana Republic and their RTW line for spring this year. If you have a great figure and you’ve really been keeping fit, then you would look good in a Banana Republic ensemble. Their silhouettes are skinny-friendly, with waistlines emphasized and dresses hugging your body.

Here are a few highlights of the Banana Republic collection. Which ensemble do you love best?

I have always loved how their clothes are so Park Avenue. They are perfect for the office. I can imagine a stylish company executive wearing any of the outfits featured in the spring collection. They are all so drool-worthy!

Banana Republic Spring 2012 RTW (5)

The silhouette of the above ensemble should serve to flatter most women. The belt does go around the waist, something most women dread, but the ruched hem will camouflage any bulges. And the pencil cut skirt will create a slim line.

Banana Republic Spring 2012 RTW (6)

I have a short skirt just like the one above. It’s black and white floral and it goes with tops of vibrant colors.

I shall save all my spare change and purchase at least five of these outfits. It would be a shame to never wear a Banana Republic attire at least five times in a year!

Banana Republic released another Safari inspired line for the Spring RTW collection, something a lot of people are quite excited about. Utilitarian clothes at their best, definitely. But I prefer the floral patterns which were used quite a lot in this line. Wonderful, wonderful dresses that look tailored.

Raf Simons Leaves Jil Sander

It’s true, Raf Simons is leaving Jil Sander. This is the continuation of my post on the Jil Sander Fall 2012 RTW line by Raf Simons. As I mentioned yesterday, Raf Simons has announced that this was going to be his last collection for Jil Sander… and Jil Sander herself is coming back to take his place.

Oddly enough, people don’t seem to be too enthusiastic about this change. Perhaps that’s because Raf Simons did such a great job for the past seven years or so at Jil Sander. Maybe they’ve grown to really like all the collections he has presented in the past seasons. For whatever reason, the fact that Simons is leaving Jil Sander has upset many fans of this brand.

But even that drama was not enough to dampen the mood during the fashion show for the Jil Sander Fall 2012 RTW collection. Here are more of the fab clothes and outfits paraded out on the catwalk.

Jil Sander Fall 2012 (13)

A wonderful onesie that does not look childish or dated. The jumpsuit was a popular trend in the previous year, but this take on that trend is very much updated.

Jil Sander Fall 2012 (14)Jil Sander Fall 2012 (15)

Wonderful cutout at the front of this dress. I only hope they have one that’s a little shorter – long dresses don’t flatter my legs very much.

Jil Sander Fall 2012 (16)

Above is a very pretty red coat, something that will definitely get everyone’s attention, if that’s what you are aiming for. Attention-whores, this is your chance to wear something tasteful!

Jil Sander Fall 2012 (17)

Asymmetrical yet minimalist, the above dress skims the body and tries its best not to cling. That’s the kind of cut most women want.

Jil Sander Fall 2012 (18)

The above shift is like an optical illusion. It’s as if she’s wearing a tube top with a geometric cut at the front, a separate skirt, and a pink blazer. But it’s all actually just one dress!

Jil Sander Fall 2012 (19)

I remember having a dress pretty much like the one above. The tailoring was made to look like a tulip skirt, but because the fabric was soft, it draped beautifully at the sides instead of puffing out.

Jil Sander Fall 2012 (20)

Oh, doesn’t the above dress look like a slip instead of a dress? Nice to wear on a date if you want his eyes on you all the time.

Jil Sander Fall 2012 (21)Jil Sander Fall 2012 (22)

And all the black dresses in the collection had a combination of at least two textures. It’s a great way to liven up such a bleak color.

Jil Sander Fall 2012 (23)Jil Sander Fall 2012 (24)Jil Sander Fall 2012 (25)

Goodbye, Raf Simons. His leaving Jil Sander will be quite a loss. We can only hope that the Fall 2012 RTW collection from Jil Sander is not too hard to top. Jil Sander, are you up to the task at hand? We shall await your first collection in a long time, holding out breaths in anticipation.
