Jil Sander has been the baby of Raf Simons for about seven years. But the Fall 2012 RTW collection of Jil Sander is the last one ever to be created by Raf Simons. I write this blog post with a little sadness in my heart because I’ve always loved the clean lines and colors that Raf Simons uses for the brand. But he has to leave, now that Jil Sander herself is coming back to take care of the Jil Sander brand.
But many critics are waiting for this change with a raised brow. I’m raising mine as well, but out of curiosity, not of skepticism. Many have grown to love Raf Simons’ creations for Jil Sander that they believe even Ms. Sander herself will never be able to top what Raf has done.
During his last runway show, Simons was applauded and given a standing ovation. He was touched, moved, and took a bow with a bewildered, bittersweet expression on his face. It’s just all too sad, I say.
But let’s not allow all the emotion to upstage the actual fall 2012 collection, which was excellent. Jil Sander RTW line for fall this year is going to be tough, if not impossible, to beat. Judge for yourself.
I love how the inner lining has a different color from that of the outer fabric. It all looks very mod, in a way. Clean, oversized designs are a great way to hide a fab dress inside, too.
The pastel palette used by Simons in his last Jil Sander line is something to be coveted. It would be nice to have a pastel colored dress amidst the sea of bright and bold colors today.
I have a blouse just like the one above: see-through fabric combined with stretch cotton in white, but with no sleeves. I love the juxtaposition of transparency and opacity in this Jil Sander outfit.
I also admire the collar used in the above coat. However, I wouldn’t dare wear it – it’s not going to flatter my collar much.
A Japanese-inspired ensemble, but in pale colors. The giant obi-like belt and the kimono-inspired cut of the dress above are all very Asian.
Oh, wouldn’t you just love to go out to town with such a comfy coat like the one above? Cushy!
Clean lines, bustier-style tube dress from Jil Sander. The tulip-like cut of the dress will do wonders to flatter any figure.
And these are just some of the outfits paraded during the fall 2012 RTW fashion show for Jil Sander. Raf Simons did such a great job with this line. Too bad this is going to be his very last show for Jil Sander. More on this collection in my next post!
